Arsene Wenger must be sick of the former Arsenal players and managers crawling out of the woodwork and telling the Frenchman that he needs to sign players before the transfer window closes.
Wenger has been a revelation as Arsenal manager and that was little question that new faces would be arriving at the Emirates in the next few days, following the departure of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.
Even so, it is in defence where Wenger appears to be strengthening, with Per Mertesacker and Andre Santos on the verge of joining the north London club. It is believed that Arsenal will spend a combined fee of £16 million on the two players.
Mertesacker will arrive with a strong track record, having represented Germany on 75 occasions and the Werder Bremen player is still only 26 which suggests that Arsenal would get several good years from the player.
Santos is currently on the books at Fenerbahce, with the Brazilian left-back thought to be available for £6 million and reinforcements at the back seem required after the 8-2 blitzing at the expense of Manchester United on Sunday.
Park Chu-young has already been signed by the Gunners after arriving from Monaco and said: “I just want to show how good I am and prove myself.”
