There is a fortnight left before the August transfer window closes and Arsenal supporters will be hoping to see more players arrive at the Emirates after the Cesc Fabregas transfer to Barcelona was finally completed.
With Samir Nasri also expected to sign for Manchester City, it is clear that the midfield area will need strengthening and the name of Joey Barton has been linked with a move to Arsenal.
Barton is currently public enemy number one with Gooners after the Newcastle player was involved in the incident that saw Gervinho sent off at St James’ Park and Arsene Wenger has ruled out a move for the troubled player.
Wenger told The Guardian: “Nobody dismisses signing Joey Barton but I don’t think we envisage doing that at the moment.
“I like the courage of the player. He’s a good player. Sometimes there’s trouble with his temper but he’s a great player.”
He joked: “Maybe the way to sort Barton out is to sign him. Maybe that’s the solution.”
Even so, Barton might be a good player but his poor temperament makes him a liability for any club wanting to sign him, with there being every chance that he will remain on the books at Newcastle.
