Arsene Wenger will not have been pleased to see his Arsenal team draw Udinese in the Champions League play-off on Friday, with the Gunners likely to be severely tested by a side that finished a creditable fourth in Serie A last term.
The task won’t be made any easier by the fact that Wenger will be serving a touchline ban when the teams meet at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday 16 August, while Robin van Persie and Samir Nasri will also be suspended for the clash.
Arsenal are still strong favourites to make the group stage, while Bayern Munich will have been pleased to have been paired with FC Zurich, a modest Swiss outfit that will have to figure out a way of beating the German Bundesliga favourites.
Benfica are up against FC Twente, the Dutch side that featured in Tottenham’s group last season, while Villarreal will be expected to overcome the challenge of Danish club Odense.
