Ashley Young did not win any silverware with Aston Villa, nor did he get the chance to taste Champions League football with the Midlands club. It is for these two reasons that the winger has agitated for a move away from Villa Park this summer, especially when Manchester United came calling for the England international.

Young arrives at Old Trafford on a five-year contract for a fee thought to be in the region of £15 million. He is clearly delighted that the transfer has been completed and looks forward to fresh challenges with the English champions.

“I am going to miss Villa – they have been fantastic and helped me along – but to have the chance to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world is one that I couldn’t turn down,” Young said. “To come here and play with such great players and have the chance to be part of a team that hopefully wins a 20th title would be amazing.”

“You get a buzz inside. You get a great feeling that one of the greatest managers in the world wants to sign you and one of the greatest clubs in the world wants to buy you,” he said. “As soon as I got the call, I wanted to get things sorted, get the papers signed and get back in to training.”
