Birmingham can take a big step towards the last 32 of the Europa League if they can get anything at Braga on Wednesday night.
It will be a tough ask, however, given the Portuguese side won 3-1 at St Andrews back in September. But with both teams on seven points in Group H (as are leaders Brugge), there is everything to play for.
Birmingham managed an impressive 2-1 victory at Club Brugge in October in the competition thanks to a late, late goal from Chris Wood. Braga do not have a perfect home record either, having themselves lost to Brugge at the end of September. The Blues can be backed at a best price of 6/1 (Betfred – £50 free bets) to get the three points, which looks a great price considering the topsy-turvy nature of the group so far.
Braga, managed by Leonardo Jardim, would hope to get at least a draw at home, but they lost 3-2 to Porto at the weekend and there will be opportunities for Chris Hughton’s side to gain territorial advantage in spells. Braga are priced at odds of 4/7 (Stan James – £150 free betting), but we feel this offers little value.
We think this will be a tentative, tactical affair with both sides hoping not to lose above all. Backing under 2.5 goals could be the way to go at best odds of 10/11 (Victor Chandler) while the draw also looks good at 3/1 (Ladbrokes). Backing the correct score of 1-1 at a best price of 7/1 (Boylesports) could bring you a nice profit, but ultimately Braga could well prove too much for the visitors.
As such we think the best option would be to back the draw at half time with Braga coming through to take victory by the final whistle at best odds of 7/2 (Ladbrokes).
