Just two points separate 4th-place West Ham United and 13th-place Leicester City which illustrates that the Championship is once again an open division with several teams fancying their chances of a place in the top six.
The Hammers were pre-season favourites to win the league and Sam Allardyce will be reasonably pleased with their start to the season, having won half of their dozen games including three on the road.
West Ham’s latest match saw them narrowly lose 1-0 at Southampton, although they had several chances to get something out of the game and are the 11/8 favourites (Ladbrokes – £50 free bet) to land victory at the AMEX Stadium.
Brighton had a flying start to the season after being promoted as champions of League One last term, although the Seagulls have failed to win any of their last six which has seen them slide to the middle of the table.
Gus Poyet’s team haven’t won at home since the beginning of August, although they will have a sell-out crowd behind them on Monday night, with Victor Chandler (£25 free betting) going 21/10 that we see a home win.
Craig Mackail-Smith was wanted by West Ham in the summer but instead opted for the south coast and he can be backed at 6/1 to score the first goal, with John Carew and Sam Baldock the preferred option for Allardyce.
