Anzhi Makhachkala made headlines around the world when they swooped for Samuel Eto’o during the summer, with the Russian Premier League capturing the signature of the former Inter striker largely because they were able to offer him wages in the region of £330,000 per week.
The club have also appointed Roberto Carlos as manager and it appears as though the Brazilian has identified several players that could help to deliver success on a domestic and potentially European front.
Two of those players ply their trade in the Premier League, with Nicolas Anelka and Robin Van Persie both mentioned by Carlos during a recent interview regarding transfer targets.
“Anelka is not the only player,” he told French TV show Canal Football Club.
“Nene from PSG and Van Persie from Arsenal are players we are following. And Neymar? I talked to him.
“If Real, Barca or Manchester United cannot pay the transfer fee, we will pay it. Suleyman Kerimov can offer what he wants.”
Anelka appears to have decided to leave Chelsea in the summer and it is easy to see the Frenchman going to Russia for one final pay day. However, surely Van Persie would be less keen on this kind of career move with some of his best years ahead of him.
