The fixture list has been released, Chelsea will be going to Stoke on the opening day of the season, although supporters are still waiting to see who will be manager of the team when the campaign gets under way.
Guus Hiddink remains the odds-on favourites to be installed as Chelsea manager and the smart money has to be on the Dutchman considering that the west London club have stated that the new manager will be named within a fortnight.
After all, there would be no delay if their number one target wasn’t already attached to a contract and it appears that Chelsea just need more time to arrange compensation with the Turkish Football Association, Hiddink’s current employers.
Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay said: said: “The process of getting a new coach is going very, very well.
“I’d expect a new coach to hopefully be in place within the next week, maybe two weeks, but maybe even earlier.
“Continuity is very important but so is performance and results.
“Our model may not be the model others agree with but at the end of the day, we’ve taken the decisions we felt we needed to take to develop Chelsea football club… and we’ve won 10 major trophies in the last six years.”
