Chelsea are currently enjoying a pre-season tour of the Far East, with new manager Andre Villas-Boas becoming acquainted with his squad members and that includes Didier Drogba, the 33-year-old striker who is entering the final year of his contract.
Drogba has now been at Stamford Bridge for seven seasons despite regularly being linked with a move away from the club, especially in the wake of Jose Mourinho’s departure. However, the Ivorian is happy to stay and fight for his place, with the striker set to sign a one-year extension to his current deal.
Drogba said: “We’ve started talking and it’s very interesting. Everybody knows what I feel about Chelsea and what I want. I will definitely be here next season. I said a few years ago that I will be here until the end of my contract, and I am here. Now I need to keep playing well here and giving my best, like I always try to do. This will be my eighth season at this club and it means a lot for any striker to stay that long at Chelsea.”
It appears that Villas-Boas will employ a 4-3-3 formation next term which means that Drogba and Fernando Torres will be battling it out for one place, with the latter yet to find form since completing a £50 million move from Liverpool in January.
Didier Drogba is best odds 14/1 with bet365 bookmakers (£200 free bets) to be Top Premier League Goalscorer 2011/12.
