It is impossible to argue that the England cricket team truly look like the world number one Test side at the moment, with Andrew Strauss’ side excelling with the bat and ball this summer to make India look very ordinary.
Say what you like about the tourists, who have had their injury problems during the tour, although there has been no let-up from England at Lord’s, Trent Bridge and especially Edgbaston where the home side dominated from start to finish.
Strauss is very keen for this to continue at The Oval this week and insists that the players will compete with same appetite that has got them into this victorious position.
“We will approach it in the same way as we would any other Test,” Strauss told Sky Sports News.
“We’re desperate to finish the summer on a high. The work ethic over the last couple of days has been good and encouraging and I’d be very disappointed if we took our foot off the gas”.
Graham Onions and Steven Finn are in the latest squad, something which Strauss feels reflects the depth of quality available to England at the moment.
“It’s great to see Onions back in the squad. He played a very significant part in the 2009 Ashes win and we all have high regard for him as a bowler. With him and Steven Finn, there is definitely strength in depth,” Strauss said.
