England v Pakistan 3rd Test betting preview
The 3rd Test takes place at The Oval on Wednesday and it’s no surprise to see England as hot favourites to win this Test Match and make the series score 3-0. Andrew Strauss and his team have been head and shoulders above the tourists in both the Trent Bridge and Edgbaston matches, so it’s little surprise to see that 4/7 (Sporting Bet - £25 free bet) is the biggest price that you can get about them winning in Surrey.
It’s looking good for England ahead of The Ashes in Australia and the bookmakers have been shortening the team to come back from Down Under with the tiny urn. Bet365- £200 free bet now go 2/1 that they can beat an Australia team that appears to be going through a transitional phase, although they must firstly finish off the job against Pakistan.
The bowling attack of James Anderson, Steven Finn and Stuart Broad demolished the Pakistani batting order in Birmingham and they will be confident of yielding a similar result on a pitch that tends not to produce draws. Anderson is clearly the main man as far as England and the ball are concerned, so he could be the best bet (9/4 Blue Square bookmakers) to take the most wickets during this Test Match.
Graeme Swann is expected to get the ball moving and is available at 11/4 (William Hill bookmakers) to be Top England Wicket Taker, while you can back the precocious Broad at 3/1 (bet365) and Huckleberry Finn is on offer at 7/2 (Blue Square bookies). It looks to be a pretty powerful line-up and one which will see the selectors opt for six batsmen in the line-up.
Kevin Pietersen marked a return to form by scoring a 1st innings total of 80 at Edgbaston and the number four is 7/2 (Ladbrokes bookmaker) to amass the most runs for England again. It was a timely knock for a player who may yet play as a number three when the winter comes around, although Jonathan Trott’s pair of half centuries suggests that he could also be worth a bet at 9/2 (Blue Square). Captain Andrew Strauss (7/2 Ladbrokes) is proving to be solid, although the real pressure is on Alastair Cook (5/1 Paddy Power bookmaker) who once again stumbled in the last Test.
Pakistan are 6/1 (Ladbrokes) to win this 3rd Test and this young team will have little to lose from having a real crack at their opponents, especially if they can win the toss and bat well. Let’s not forget that they recently beat Australia at Headingley, even if it’s a victory which is slowly fading from the memory.
They’ll be especially keen to avoid a series whitewash, something which Blue Square offer at 11/8 and perhaps only the weather can stop this greatest of English success. An England 3-0 success is on offer at 12/5 (totesport), with the same firm offering 6/1 that England win 3-1.
