England started off their ODI series with a bang at The Oval, although defeats at Headingley and Lord’s means that Sri Lanka have the upper hand going into Wednesday’s match at Trent Bridge and victory for the tourists will complete a series victory.
Perhaps it should come as no surprise to find the Sri Lankans superior when it comes to this form of cricket, especially as they steered a path to the World Cup final earlier in the year. The victories at Lord’s (6 wickets) and Leeds (69 runs) were both pretty convincing and it is a surprise to see Paddy Power (£100 free bets) offering 11/10 that they go 3-1 ahead on Wednesday.
England are 4/5 with William Hill (£25 free betting) to win in the Midlands and set up a decider at Old Trafford on Saturday, with lots of early pressure on new ODI captain Alastair Cook. Nevertheless, you couldn’t fault the Essex batsman for his 119 runs at Lord’s, something which accounted for nearly 50% of his team’s runs.
Cook is unsurprisingly the 3/1 favourite (Paddy Power) to be top England batsman for the series while Kevin Pietersen is a 4/1 chance (Skybet – £35 free bets) and showed glimpses of a return to form when putting together a knock of 41 on Sunday.
Graeme Swann was able to pick up a couple of wickets during the Sri Lanka innings, despite the home side toiling with the ball and Swanny should have plenty of joy on a wicket that he knows very well. Paddy Power goes 9/4 that he finishes as Top Series Bowler.
