Graeme Swann will lead England into battle on Friday for the first of two ODI’s against the West Indies at The Oval. Swann was an interesting choice as captain, although behind the joker appearance is a player that is highly respected by his peers and we can expect plenty of stern faces out on the field.
The home side are strong favourites to claim an initial victory with a best price 4/11 (Ladbrokes – £50 free bets) available that they beat the tourists, with England having beaten India in Manchester at the end of August after winning in Dublin.
Alex Hales and Craig Kieswetter will be the men opening the batting for England and can be backed at 4/1 (bet365 – £200 free betting) and 7/2 (Victor Chandler) respectively to score the most runs for their side in this exciting format of the game.
Meanwhile, Swann will want to lead by example with the ball and can be backed at 3/1 (bet365) to take the most wickets, although perhaps Jade Dernbach is the value at 10/3 considering that he has impressed a great deal during the summer.
The West Indies seem to be in a permanent state of transition these days and they have not been helped by the row between the selectors and Chris Gayle which means that the all-rounder will not feature in these matches.
With the forecast set fair, perhaps the Windies will surprise everyone by taking the game to England and they can be backed at 12/5 to win this match.
