Former Chelsea manager claims selling Drogba will help Torres

Carlo Ancelotti was sacked by Chelsea at the end of last season, with the Italian paying the price for failing to build on his first season success where the Blues landed a domestic double

Ancelotti is now in charge of Paris St Germain, a Ligue 1 club with big spending power, much like Chelsea in the Premier League. The former Blues boss has been asked about the striker situation at Stamford Bridge and claims that selling Didier Drogba is the only way to get the best from Fernando Torres.

However, it is not an opinion that Andre Villas-Boas shared and the Portuguese claims that Torres will improve irrespective of whether Drogba stays or goes.

“It’s nothing to do with one being present and the other one not,” Villas-Boas said.

“In a club of our dimension, we have top competition.

“The people you compete with are as good or better than you and you have to compete to reach the starting XI.

“It’s the same with Barcelona and Real Madrid. You compete with the best within the group.”

Chelsea have an opportunity to close the gap at the top of the table on Saturday, with three of the top four in action on Sunday.
