This time a year ago, FC Twente went into the Champions League as Dutch champions and competed in the same group as Tottenham Hotspur and Internazionale. However, they could not retain their title and will now compete against Fulham, Odense and Wisla Krakow in Group K of the Europa League.
Craven Cottage has not exactly been a fortress this season after Martin Jol’s team drew with Aston Villa on the opening day of the season and then landed another point at home to Blackburn on Sunday. Fulham are yet to click into gear this term although can be backed at 23/20 (Paddy Power – £100 free bets) to get off to a winning start after working their way through three qualifying rounds.
Jol will be aware of the need to get points on the board in the Premier League with Manchester City visiting on Sunday and the Dutchman might select a weakened team for this contest, although Bobby Zamora (11/2 Coral) will be looking to get on a scoring run after equalising against Blackburn.
If Fulham’s previous home matches are any yardstick, then this could be a low-scoring contest and Under 2.5 Goals is on offer at 5/6 (Victor Chandler – £25 free betting), with Twente likely to be happy with a draw on the basis that they should do well on home soil.
The visitors are 11/4 to claim victory and Co Adriaanse has seen his team enjoy a bright start to the campaign which has seen them collect four wins from a possible five.
