This is a flat race meeting that never disappoints, with many enthusiasts preferring to flock to Sussex rather than the stuffy atmosphere that pervades Royal Ascot, with spectators getting one of the final chances to watch the legendary Frankel in action.
The Qipco Sussex Stakes takes place on Wednesday at 3.10pm and there are seven horses entered to challenge the mighty four-year-old although whether any of them will get near to this superstar is pretty doubtful.
The Sir Henry Cecil-trained charge has never been beaten and his performance at Royal Ascot was simply out of this world, claiming an 11-length win over Excelebration and the horse with the strongest claims against Frankel this time around is Farhh.
Even so, the best odds you will get about the favourite is a prohibitive 1/14 (Paddy Power free bets) and it looks highly likely that Frankel will finish off his racing career unbeaten before racing unprecedented amounts of money for the stud rights.
Farhh is realistically the only horse that can pose a challenge and the Godolphin runner is an 8/1 poke with Coral to improve markedly on that second place finish in the Coral Eclipse which saw Nathaniel edge a rain-sodden Sandown Park.
However, there is plenty of racing to enjoy on Day 1 of Glorious Goodwood which includes the Lennox Stakes, a Group 2 contest over seven furlongs which looks to be a wide open contest.
Chachamaidee has the magic Cecil-Queally connection and should go off favourite, although Foxtrot Romeo, Libranno and Majestic Myles are all class animals with more than a lively chance.
Day 2 includes the Sussex Stakes but also the Veuve Clicquot Vintage Stakes which is a Group 2 contest that will feature some of the most talented two-year-old flat prospects in the world. The aptly-named Olympic Glory looks to have the most solid credentials after two wins and a second place in the past six weeks.
Day 3 of Glorious Goodwood is Ladies Day and that means the Goodwood Cup. This two-mile contest has a healthy fourteen entrants and Saddlers Rock looks like a great bet after coming desperately close to winning the Ascot Gold Cup.
The Audi Stakes is the other Group 2 contest on the card this coming Thursday which is going to be a six furlong stampede featuring over 20 horses and Cristoforo Colombo will run for Aidan O’Brien along with four of his other horses.
