With the Premier League a week away from starting, the Championship takes centre stage this weekend, with Hull City and Blackpool lifting the curtain on a new campaign on Friday night.
Both of these teams have had recent forays into the Premier League, with the Tigers spending two seasons in the top flight and the Tangerines coming desperately close to survival last term before that cruel final day defeat at Old Trafford.
Hull are 11/8 (William Hill – £30 free bets) to make a winning start at the KC Stadium, with Nigel Pearson having steered the team to a creditable 11th place last term and a top six finish is certainly not beyond a side that have added Dele Adebola to the attack.
City are likely to start with Matt Fryatt (11/2 Victor Chandler) and Aaron McLean in attack, with the former Peterborough forward available at 6/1 (bet365 – £200 free bets) to score the first goal.
Meanwhile, Blackpool must prepare for life back in the Championship without Charlie Adam and David Vaughan, while DJ Campbell has also just left for QPR and that means that Ian Holloway must rebuild to a large extent.
Even so, we should still expect the Tangerines to retain their attacking principles and Betfred go 11/5 that we see the visitors land the three points, with Kevin Phillips (7/1 Stan James) looking to finish his career on a high.
We should also bear in mind that the large majority of Blackpool’s games last season ended in three goals or more and that particular outcome can be backed at 10/11 (Paddy Power – £100 free betting).
