Portman Road will be the setting for the clash between Ipswich Town and Barnsley on Friday night. Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy grew up in the Yorkshire town of Barnsley, and made 272 appearances for the club before moving on to Man City and Celtic. Sentiment won’t get in the way on Friday night however, and he will want to inflict maximum damage on his home town club.
The home team are very strong favourites to emerge victorious from this game, and Paddy Power offer 3/4 that the Suffolk side manage their fifth win so far this season, and go into the top eight in the Championship table.
Ipswich have been in fine form at home, however their away results have been far from acceptable, and it is four games since they last won a match.
A 1-1 draw with Bolton on saturday was a respectable result, and Davis McGoldrick is proving to be a successful purchase for the club, with the ex Notts Forest player priced at 5/1 to open the scoring against the Tykes.
Barnsley will be hoping to climb their way out of the relegation zone, and with just nine points out of thirteen games played so far, things are looking rather bleak so far. They haven’t managed an away win all season and Bet365 are offering odds of 9/2 that the visitors can claim their first three points away from home.
The likeliest goalscorer for the visitors is Chris O’Grady, and BetVictor offer 17/2 that he scores first in this encounter. Barnsley need to keep things substantially tighter in this game, having conceded 30 goals so far this season, a statistic that does little to cheer manager David Flitcroft.
Barnsley have managed a measly five goals away from home, and an Ipswich win to nil is a good bet with Coral at 21/10. Ipswich haven’t set the goalscoring statistics alight this so far this season, and a 1-0 win for Town is a decent bet which can be had for 15/2.
Ipswich v Barnsley is shown live on Sky Sports 1 HD on Friday 1st November at 7:45pm
