Sheffield United v Oldham Athletic 15:00
Since losing to Burton on penalties in the League Cup, the Blades have been unbeaten this season although there have been more draws (6) than victories (5). Even so, it has been a strong start for the south Yorkshire club who come into this match of the back of away wins at Hartlepool and Leyton Orient.
Sheffield United are a 4/6 chance (BetVictor free bets) to beat Oldham on Saturday, although the Latics will also be full of confidence after a 3-1 win against Preston North End and Paul Dickov appears to have his team playing well at the moment.
Athletic had just one win in all competitions before matches against Crewe and PNE, although their tails are firmly up and there are some quality players on loan such as Jose Baxter and Matt Derbyshire. Oldham look overpriced at 5/1 to inflict United’s first defeat of the season and the draw is priced at 3/1.
Carlisle United v Notts County 15:00
It’s been a strange start to the season for Carlisle, who have collected ten of their fifteen points on the road and Greg Abbott will be looking to rectify United’s home form as quickly as possible.
Portsmouth are the only team that the Blues have beaten at Brunton Park, although last weekend’s 2-1 win at Walsall ended a run of two losses and they will fancy their chances against a Notts County team who come into this match with two successive defeats of their own.
Carlisle are an 8/5 chance (BetVictor free bets) to claim all three points, with Joe Garner back at the club on loan four seasons after being sold to Nottingham Forest for over £1 million.
County were second best to high-flying Tranmere last weekend and Keith Curle’s side are now looking for their first win in four matches, having previously been riding high in the table. However, their last away game saw them claim a point at Bramall Lane and Coral go 15/8 about the visitors claiming a maximum haul.
Tranmere Rovers v Yeovil 15:00
Win or lose this match and Tranmere wil remain top of League One although every other club chasing promotion will hope that Rovers experience their first defeat on Saturday.
It has been an amazing start for Ronnie Moore’s team who won their eighth game of the season on Saturday against Notts County and the 1-0 victory should have been a lot more comfortable, with Rovers missing several chances to extend their lead.
The bookies are wary of taking on Tranmere and bet365 are the only firm to go 4/6 about the Merseyside team who are dreaming of promotion after such a fast start. Talisman Andy Robinson will be hoping to recover from injury in time, although keeper Fon Williams is on international duty with Wales.
Yeovil are a 5/1 chance to win at Prenton Park and they have won twice on the road this season, with Gary Johnson a reasonably astute manager at this level who will make sure his team are defensively organised against the table’s top team. A run of six straight defeats ended with a 3-1 win against Colchester although this is clearly not a great time to be heading to the Wirral.
