Since Steven Gerrard returned to the Liverpool squad from a long-term injury, Kenny Dalglish has been very careful when it has come to giving the Reds skipper game minutes.
Fifteen minutes in a Carling Cup match at Brighton have been followed by further cameos in the Wolves and Everton matches, although it appears as though the Liverpool manager could be prepared to start Gerrard against Manchester United on Saturday.
With Fabio Capello having left the player out of the England squad for the recent game in Montenegro, Gerrard has had lots of recovery time and Dalglish is delighted to have him back in the fold.
“A fit Steven Gerrard strengthens this football club, no question. If you have Steven in your squad, it’s going to raise the profile and standard,” said Dalglish.
“We want to have a really strong squad – and him being in it makes it that much stronger.”
Fabio Aurelio was also full of praise for his team-mate, hinting that the midfielder should be available to start against the Red Devils.
“We are all delighted that Stevie is back,” said Aurelio.
“He is the captain and a great player, and it is a massive help to the team to have him playing again.
“Gerrard’s availability is an added ingredient into what should be an exciting but difficult game for both teams.”
