The Manchester City fans at Anfield were in good voice at the start of the match, singing their praises of manager Roberto Mancini, although this didn’t last very long.
From the moment that Andy Carroll’s powerful left-foot shot beat Joe Hart, there was only going to be one winner and Liverpool stretched their legs to lead 3-0 at half-time on Monday night.
City were clearly affected by the early substitution of Carlos Tevez, although Roberto Mancini is accepting full responsibility for what happened at Anfield.
“I am disappointed with myself because I made a mistake. It was my fault – not the players,” said Mancini, whose team have failed to win on the road in 2011.
“The players played 100 per cent. It is important that I understand that it was my mistake. I made a mistake in the last two days but I know why. But I don’t want to say any more than that.”
Mancini chose to change the side that thrashed Sunderland 5-0 in their last match, bringing in Edin Dzeko although this allowed the visitors’ midfield to be overrun and it appears that Carlos Tevez is out of Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United.
