Could this be the breakthrough season for Manchester City, who have so far spent an awful lot of money on players in their quest to become a major power in European football?
City finished third in the Premier League last term, level on points with Chelsea and they have nine points to find on arch-rivals Manchester United, although the club will also be focused on competing in the Champions League for the first time.
Even so, Yaya Toure is confident that City can be very successful over the next few seasons and the Ivory Coast midfielder is even backing his team to match Barcelona in the not too distant future.
Toure left Barca to sign for the Premier League side and said: “I was interviewed after a game last season and asked to compare City to Barcelona. I responded by saying that I thought City could be as good as Barça one day. That was before Barça’s amazing finish to the season and their incredible performance in the Champions League final but when I said that City could be as good I truly believed it and I still do.
“We obviously have a way to go to match those teams but it is our aim. And with the ambition that the club has shown in the last few seasons and the way we are improving as a group, I think other clubs are now starting to take notice of the new Manchester City.”
