One point from two Champions League group matches mean that Manchester City face an uphill struggle when it comes to qualifying for the knockout stage of the competition.
Six points from home and away matches against Villarreal would do very nicely for Roberto Mancini’s team, not least as it would rule out their Spanish opponents from challenging for a top two finish in Group A.
David Silva has been one of the stand-out performers for his team this season and he claims that City can turn things around in the Champions League, saying: “We have got a lot of games under our belt in the league.
“In the Champions League we have only played two games and those two games were against top sides.
“Maybe it is a case of needing a few more games under our belt in that competition too in order to get the same consistency we have been showing in the league.
“We have made things a little bit hard for ourselves but we can start to improve tonight.”
Silva is well versed on Villarreal following a stint at Valencia and claims that they will be dangerous opponents.
“They like to keep hold of the ball, they like to pass it around and they can also hit you on the break.
“We have got to be careful and try to retain as much possession as we can and avoid being hit on the counter.”
