It seemed to be business as usual for Manchester United on Tuesday night after Danny Welbeck opened the scoring against Basel in the 16th minute, with the young striker needing just another ninety seconds to double the Red Devils’ advantage in the Champions League clash.
However, the Swiss champions looked dangerous throughout the contest and Basel turned the game on its head during a frantic second half which saw Fabian Frei reduce the arrears before Alexander’s Frei double sent the visitors into a 3-2 lead with United badly wavering.
Ashley Young’s late header nicked a point for last year’s runner-up and Danny Welbeck’s header nearly saw United steal victory, while there were fun and games on betfair as customers managed to get hold of some tasty winning prices.
The Red Devils were trading at around 1.20 to win the match before Welbeck’s opening two goals and that saw United’s odds go down to 1.01, with over £35,000 matched at that price.
Similarly Basel’s price rocketed out to 350/1 and there were a few takers of that price, with the visitors offering plenty in attack and certain customers must have been getting very excited as the Swiss team began their comeback.
The draw was also backed at huge prices, with some people managing to get 75/1 about the match ending all square and they must have been celebrating when Young’s header found the net to rescue a point for Manchester United.
It goes to show the big prices that can be had when it comes to In-Play betting on the Champions League and other football matches.
