Micah Richards has told the Manchester Evening News that Manchester United are a little bit scared of City after the latter’s impressive start to the season which sees them sitting top of the Premier League.
However, opposite number Chris Smalling is a little less bullish with his pre-match comments ahead of a match which could have a major bearing in the outcome of the Premier League title.
Smalling admits that he and his team-mates are more desperate to win this match than any other, with the 21-year-old fully aware of a derby’s importance in Manchester having grown up supporting Arsenal.
“It is one game I want to win more than any other,” Smalling told the Manchester Evening News. “I think this is the biggest game and biggest derby we face now.
“City have been investing and growing steadily and have hit some great form this season.
“Straightaway when you come here to the city the Manchester derby is something everybody talks about.
“Yes I was an Arsenal fan and loved the derbies I went to see against Spurs. I loved the passion of the occasion. But I am very much United now and this derby has overtaken the north London one in my mind.”
