Many people fancy Javier Hernandez to be the Premier League top goalscorer next season, although the Mexican’s season might be delayed after suffering a bout of mild concussion during a Manchester United training session in the United States.

Hernandez was preparing with his team-mates for United’s match against the MLS All-Stars when he sustained the injury and was immediately sent to hospital in New Jersey, with Sir Alex Ferguson confirming that Chicharito will not play for the next fortnight.

“He got concussion in training and we dealt with that,” said Ferguson. “We took him to hospital, he had a scan, it was all clear. He is back in the hotel. He is in his room and will be out for a couple of weeks.

“He would never have been available for Barcelona (final pre-season friendly) anyway because he has just come back from his break after the Gold Cup. He will travel with us though. He is OK for that.”

Indeed, Ferguson might have been planning to use Hernandez sparingly during the start of the season and this means that he will play no part in the Community Shield against Manchester City.
