One wonders whether everything that Mario Balotelli utters should be taken with a pinch of salt, with Jose Mourinho having famously described the Italian as a talented footballer but somebody who has the brain of a small child.
That appeared to be in evidence on Sunday when the striker spoke to Italian TV following Manchester City’s 3-0 friendly win against Inter Milan in Dublin. Balotelli scored during this game, although he hardly endeared himself to the City fans with comments made about the city of Manchester.
“I am not happy in Manchester,” Balotelli said. “I do not like the city. With my team-mates and my manager, everything is fine, but the city is not to my tastes. I miss the chance to be at home with my family and with my friends.”
Balotelli’s comments echo that of Carlos Tevez who recently stated that he would never return to Manchester after he had completed a move away from Eastlands, although since when did a player have to like a place in order to play football there?
After all, it is quite clear that most City players wouldn’t consider living in Manchester if it wasn’t for the fact that they were being paid astronomical wages to play for the Premier League outfit.
