Andy Carroll, Kevin Nolan and Joey Barton might have all left Newcastle United in 2011, although the Magpies don’t appear to be missing any of these players at the moment, with Alan Pardew’s men beating Fulham 2-1 to make it seven points from their opening three matches.
A brace from Leon Best means that Newcastle supporters will be happy going into the international break, although Pardew admits that the squad is relatively threadbare for the long campaign ahead and that new faces should be coming through the door in the next 72 hours.
He said: “It never worries me about winning games, I never really worry about that.
“But I am frustrated that we haven’t got a couple of bodies in yet, and I think Derek and Lee and Mike are frustrated as well.
“Hopefully, we will get it over the line this week.”
Newcastle didn’t receive a fee for the recent offloading of Barton to QPR although Liverpool did pay them £35 million for Carroll and supporters will hope that a decent chunk of this fee is reinvested in new players.
