One of the more intriguing Premier League match-ups this weekend takes place at St James’ Park where Newcastle will look to continue their unbeaten start to the Premier League season when they face Tottenham.
Alan Pardew might not have been flavour of the month when Mike Ashley decided to replace Chris Hughton with the former Southampton manager, although it is hard to quibble with the results that the Magpies are generating, especially as the majority of Andy Carroll money hasn’t been reinvested in the squad.
15 points from the team’s opening seven matches represents a healthy return although it is unlikely that there will be a similar haul between now and the middle of December. Tough games are on the horizon and United are the 2/1 outsiders (bet365 – £200 free bets) to claim victory on Sunday.
This price does look big on the basis that Tottenham might be without Emmanuel Adebayor and Rafael Van der Vaart, while Newcastle do not look like a team that are going to lose many matches at home this term.
However, Spurs are playing some great football at the moment and come into this match off the back of four straight Premier League wins which includes that 4-0 demolition of Liverpool and the derby win over Arsenal.
Demba Ba has been the star man for the home side in recent games and the former West Ham striker is a 7/1 chance to score first in this match, while Leon Best should also pose problems for the visitors.
If Adebayor is passed fit, then 6/1 at Boylesports might turn out to be a great bet on the First Goalscorer market, with Jermain Defoe a 13/2 chance and Luka Modric available at an attractive 14/1.
