Steve McClaren’s reign as Forest manager got off to an anticlimactic start on Saturday, with Barnsley comfortably holding the Tricky Trees to a goalless draw and life won’t be any easier for the home side on Tuesday night when they face a confident County team.
It has been seventeen seasons since the Nottingham teams met, with County winning 2-1 at Meadow Lane in the old Division One (Championship) and manager Martin Allen will be confident that his team can come away with another victory after a fine opening day performance at Carlisle.
The Magpies won 3-0 at Brunton Park and are 9/2 (William Hill – £25 free bet) to claim victory and put early pressure on McClaren, who will want to get that first win under his belt at the earliest opportunity.
Forest are understandably favourites and Coral (£25 – free betting) are the bravest bookmaker when it comes to taking on the Championship side, with 4/6 available about the home side.
Robert Earnshaw and Nathan Tyson are two of the forwards that left Forest in the summer, although David McGoldrick (7/1 Paddy Power) will be leading the line and Lewis McGugan (6/1 Skybet) will be a threat to the visitors.
Even so, County were fast out of the traps on Saturday, storming into a 3-0 lead and they have the dangerous Lee Hughes (8/1 bet365) leading the line, with Karl Hawley (10/1 Ladbrokes) looking to help his strike partner make it a memorable night for the little brother of Nottingham.
