Patrice Evra set to play for Manchester United against Liverpool

With the Luis Suarez / Patrice Evra race row having dominated the back pages for so much of the Premier League season, the last thing that Manchester United or Liverpool wanted was an FA Cup tie at Anfield where the incident occurred last autumn

Suarez is currently serving an eight-game ban after being found guilty of racially abusing the Frenchman and there was a school of thought that Evra would be left out of the Red Devils side on Saturday to avoid any extra tension in a contest which is sure to be a feisty affair.

However, Manchester United assistant manager Mike Phelan claimed on Wednesday that Evra will be in the squad and hinted that the left-back would be lining up as per normal as the Red Devils look to follow up their win at Manchester City in the third round with a win at Liverpool in the fourth round.

Phelan told BBC Radio Manchester: “Patrice Evra is a football player who plays for Manchester United. If he is fit, he is considered to play like any other player. What has happened has happened. What has been said has been said. You are talking about a football match now and I think it will be a very good FA Cup tie.”
