In-Play betting continues to grow in popularity and betfair customers were involved in a live wagering extravaganza when Roger Federer played Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarter final of the men’s singles at Wimbledon.

Federer raced into a two set lead against the Frenchman which saw the six-time winner’s odds contract to 1.01 (or 1/100) on betfair. While many of us wouldn’t consider risking £100 to win £1, there were clearly several people that felt the Swiss was a good thing and piled into the favourite.

Huge sums of money were used to back Federer at odds ranging from 1.01 to 1.05 before Tsonga started on the comeback trail, with the number 12 seed breaking his opponent early in the third set and managing to hold his serve with relative ease.

The fingernails were well and truly gone for many betfair customers when Tsonga levelled the match at two sets apiece although Federer was still the 1.50 favourite and his opponent was 2.50, despite having the momentum at that stage.

Perhaps it was because the world number three had never relinquished a two-set lead at Wimbledon in his career, although Tsonga clearly had the upper hand and he won the set 6-4 as he done with the two previous sets.

While Federer was matched at 1.01, Tsonga was backed at odds of close to 100/1 to win the match during the In-Play stages and there will be a mix of elated and deflated people today!
