After Rory McIlroy’s amazing performance in the US Open, it is easy to forget that golfing superstar Tiger Woods has set the benchmark for all young and aspiring golfers in the modern age.
Woods was nowhere to be seen at Congressional as he continued to recover from an Achilles injury and it appears that the former world number one will not have recovered in time to line up for the Open Championship.
“I’m just playing it by ear right now. There’s no timetable,” he said when asked about his return. “I’ve always been very goal-oriented about when I’m going to play, how I’m going to peak, how I’m going to get ready, how my practice schedule is going to be, and I’m not doing that this time.”
Woods was a frustrated spectator when it came to the US Open although he was highly impressed by McIlroy’s runway success.
“It was pretty good, wasn’t it? That was some seriously good playing. It was cool to see that he was able to go low but also [that he] was able to continue pushing it. That’s what’s fun when you have a lead is to keep building on it and keep pushing”.
