First year trainer Roger Varian looks to add to his already impressive season when his three year old Dominant bids to take centre stage in the Group 2 Sky Bet York Stakes. Varian who was understudy to Michael Jarvis for numerous years has made an impressive start to the training ranks in his own right and the Highclere Racing owned colt can add to that tally.
Dominant was last seen when sluicing up by five lengths at Newmarket last month with Malthouse filling the runner up position, that rival has since finished runner up again in the Glasgow Stakes at Hamilton. It is also worth pointing out that Dominant finds himself in receipt of weight all round here due to his age and that along with likely softer ground conditions could see jockey Neil Callan steer another winner home for Varian.
Sir Henry Cecil runs the consistent Twice Over, who finds himself stepping down in class from his previous three runs which have all been in the highest company. Twice Over is zero from two over this course and distance in recent years and he may find things difficult having to concede weight all round here, however it must be noted that he is the only proven group performer in the field, with the more un-exposed sorts in the field still to prove their class.
Another worth noting is Sir Michael Stoute’s Class Is Class who is due to be ridden by champion jockey Paul Hanagan, he was last seen at Sandown when slamming Tazeez (re-opposes) by four lengths, a repeat of that effort will see him in the mix here.
At the prices however Dominant is the confident selection and the 10/3 on offer at bet365 bookmakers (£200 free bets) is worth an interest.
