Norwich re-enter O’Neill’s life on Wednesday when they make the long trip to the Stadium of Light, hoping to complete a league double over Sunderland after a 2-1 Monday night win over the Black Cats earlier in the season.
Paul Lambert has achieved a double promotion with City and they look set to remain in the Premier League this season, with odds of 7/2 (Stan James – £150 free bets) available about their fourth away win of the season.
Since losing 5-1 at Manchester City in early December, Norwich have not tasted defeat on the road, having won recently at West Brom in a cup and league match. Both of these scorelines were 2-1 in the visitors’ favour and odds of 15/1 (Unibet free bets) are available about the same thing happening.
However, Sunderland will be seen by many as a stonking bet at a shade of odds-on (bet365 bookmaker) considering the resurgence they are enjoying under O’Neill, with the Wearside team sitting in 10th position following a fine run of form which has seen them register wins over Blackburn, QPR, Wigan and Swansea.
The home side were held to an FA Cup draw with Middlesbrough on Sunday which upset a lot of punters, although there is plenty to like about them going forward and that includes Stephane Sessegnon, who scored a delightful goal against the Swans and should rove forward at every opportunity.
This could be a closer match than the odds suggest and teams are certainly getting wiser to the threat posed by Sebastian Larsson from set pieces, although Draw HT Sunderland FT could be worth a nibble at odds of 4/1 with Coral.
