Sunderland have had three good results this season and three poor results. Victory over Stoke coupled with draws against Liverpool and Swansea have helped the Black Cats accrue five points.
However, defeats against Newcastle, Chelsea and Norwich mean that Steve Bruce’s team loiter near the foot of the Premier League and there was little to like about Monday’s 2-1 defeat at Carrow Road which saw the visitors fail to create a goalscoring chance of note aside from Richardson’s late consolation.
Nevertheless, the last match at the Stadium of Light saw Sunderland put four past the Potters and they are the bookmaker favourite at 5/4 (bet365 – £200 free bets) to claim a much-needed win before the international break. They will have to achieve this without the suspended Titus Bramble who was arrested earlier in the week.
West Brom have had a similarly sluggish start to the campaign and Roy Hodgson would probably give a little finger for three points on Wearside, something his Baggies team managed to get last term as part of their resurgence under the former Liverpool boss.
The Albion are 9/4 (Paddy Power – £100 free betting) to come away with the spoils although a draw (12/5) could be a better shout considering that neither team have been blessed with goals this term.
Nicklas Bendtner (11/2) was starved of service against Norwich, with Shane Long looking to end a run of four games without a goal after scoring in consecutive matches against Manchester United and Chelsea.
