Tiger Woods was selected as a wildcard to play for Team USA in the 2010 Ryder Cup and it appears that Davis Love III is ready to make the same step for the 2012 Ryder Cup, despite the former world number one being woefully out of form at the moment.

Woods has looked like a shadow of his former self since returning from injury and faces little chance of working his way into the automatic qualification spots, although it appears that allowances will be made for a player who did well for the States at Celtic Manor last year.

Fred Couples has already selected Woods for the Presidents Cup this coming November despite the player’s slump, something that has raised a few eyebrows. However, Love is supportive of the decision and feels that selecting the controversial star is always a risk worth taking.

“I’ve been asked that a lot, what would I do if I was in Fred’s situation,” he stated. “You know, you certainly want one of the best players, ever, in the game, you want him on your team.

“I’m hoping for Tiger’s – as a friend, for Tiger’s sake, that he has a full, healthy season next year and we are not in this situation; that he’s back to his form, and he’s ready to go.”
