Tottenham’s failure to land a place in next season’s Champions League might have repercussions, despite Harry Redknapp’s insistence that all his best players are set to stay at White Hart Lane.
Since Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov left for Manchester United, Spurs have managed to keep all their top players at the club, although the situation could be tested this summer, with reports linking Luka Modric with a move.
The midfielder was a stand-out performer for Tottenham last term and his latest comments do not exactly fill Spurs supporters with confidence that the Croatian will still be at the North London club when the season starts.
“I’m a Tottenham player and will be in London on July 7 to begin preparing for the season,” is quoted as saying by the Daily Star. “But I want to say that transfers could occur later.
“In England it is often the case they happen on the last day of the transfer period, August 31, so it is pointless to worry about anything now.
“If my situation changes after the start of preparation it would not be a problem.”
