Tottenham midfielder focused on winning Premier League title

It was only a matter of time before a player from the Tottenham squad broke rank and spoke publicly about Spurs winning the title, with Rafael Van Der Vaart unable to resist the urge to proclaim his team’s ambition after Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Everton

It was a result which means that Harry Redknapp’s side are level on points with Manchester United and just three points behind Manchester City, with Van Der Vaart revealing that the target is now landing the title and not just securing a place in the Champions League.

“Of course we can push for the title,” Van der Vaart said. “It was important we beat Everton, really important we got the three points. Now everybody knows Tottenham have a great team and if we can keep playing like this we will be one of the favourites to win the title. Manchester City is going to be a massive game and we’re really looking forward to it.

“City are not so consistent any more [having one win from their past five matches]. They have lost a few games recently and maybe that’s a little bit in their heads so we can take advantage. City have many good players, many individual players who can score goals and decide a game. But we are more like a team I think. So it’s going to be an interesting game.”

Van der Vaart added: “Nobody likes to come to White Hart Lane to play us because at home we are unbelievable. After next weekend against Man City we will know where we stand. But everybody in the dressing room believes we can win the league. Absolutely.”
