West Ham will expect to take three points from this home clash with Derby but Nigel Clough’s side will not roll over as they seek to stop a poor run of results.
The Hammers are short-priced favourites at 4/9 (Boylesports – £40 free bets) and we can see why as they have made an impressive start to the season. They are second in the league and look a good bet for a swift return to the Premier League. After consecutive away wins they will be confident of victory back on home soil. Last weekend they scored two second-half goals to beat Coventry and with morale sky high one might expect an easy victory here.
However, Derby are not easy to beat and having taken a point when table-topping Southampton visited and they will travel to Upton Park without fear. They have won just one league game in nine attempts, however, which perhaps explains why they are priced at 8/1 (Victor Chandler – £75 free betting) to win this one. They made a great start to the season but have since slipped up but will be boosted by the return of their captain Shaun Barker from long-term injury.
A trip to face Sam Allardyce’s side is not the easiest one in which to return to winning ways though. Big Sam made some good signings in the summer, held on to a lot of his best players and has a wealth of experience. With John Carew, Carlton Cole, Kevin Nolan, Frederic Piquionne and top scorer Sam Baldock all capable of getting goals, Derby will have to be at their best or they could suffer a big defeat.
We expect a home win here and West Ham to win by two goals looks solid at 10/3 (Ladbrokes). Clough’s side have failed to score in three of their last five matches and so 2-0 or 3-0 look the most likely outcomes in this Saturday evening match.
