With just four more shows before the final on December 10th and 11th The X Factor is really hotting up, especially after last week’s double elimination.

The battle to be crowned the eighth winner has been incredibly close all series with Janet Devlin leading the way for almost the whole time. After last weekend, however, smiley Scouser Marcus Collins has stormed to the head of the betting. He can still be backed at 3/1 (Betfred – £50 free bets) and given his steady upward trajectory he looks set to go all the way.

Another act firmly on the up is girl band Little Mix (formerly Rhythmix), now just 8/1 (Ladbrokes – £50 free betting). With the surprise elimination of past favourites The Risk, Tulisa has just one act left but Little Mix appear to be getting stronger week by week. The moguls behind the show will certainly want a group in the latter stages, so they should be given some consideration. Whether they can win is another matter but they certainly look likely to make the final.

An act whose victory credentials are now being questioned by many is Janet. Last week she forgot her lyrics and gave a very shaky performance. She has previously been criticised for being predictable and only capable of thriving when singing slower songs. Her lacklustre performance in “Dance Classics” week did nothing to dispel those thoughts.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of last week’s X Factor was the survival of Frankie Cocozza. However, an even bigger shock awaited on Tuesday with the announcement that he had been kicked off the show for “breaking one of the Golden Rules”. It is thought he was removed for boasting about taking drugs but this remains unconfirmed.

On Wednesday The X Factor bosses announced a huge twist with the news that the four acts eliminated in week one would be given a second chance. The public will vote from Thursday to decide which act will rejoin the contest on Saturday, with Amelia Lily the odds-on favourite.

This decision has thrown the elimination and winner markets into chaos. We expect Kitty to leave this weekend but with The X Factor, anything can, and usually does, happen!
